Last August, the Southern Living magazine editorial staff did something they’d never done before: They piled onto a bus at their Birmingham, Alabama, headquarters and took a roadtrip to Charleston, South Carolina. The purpose of their visit was to plan Southern Living Live, a special weekend to celebrate the magazine’s 50th Anniversary.
“This weekend-long event is our way of acknowledging our readers’ long love affair with Charleston (which we’ve put on the cover five times) and the way the city has always represented the best of the South,” write Editor-in-Chief Sid Evans in the June issue.
Throughout the Southern Living Live Weekend, June 10 – 12, guests have the opportunity to experience the best of Charleston via specialty ticketed events, including a Gullah walking tour, a curated Art Walk & Gallery Tour with Gibbes Museum Director Angela Mack and noted artist Jonathan Green, a lively King Street shopping event with Rhett Outten and Mariana Hay from Croghan’s Jewel Box, and the Art of Entertaining with acclaimed party designer Tara Guerard, among other events.
On June 10, Southern Living Decorating Editor Elly Poston will host an intimate private Chef + Editor dinner in the lush Peninsula Grill courtyard, one of Charleston’s true hidden gems. Guests will enjoy a spectacular four-course dinner with beverage pairings selected by Peninsula Grill Sommelier Dennis Perry.

“Perhaps the most romantic place to dine is Peninsula Grill’s candlelit garden, which is discreetly tucked inside the 64-room Planters Inn, the only Relais & Châteaux establishment in South Carolina.” — Southern Living magazine’s 50th Anniversary issue, February 2016
